Our Community.

Building Bonds

To us, community means taking a step back from the craziness of life and academics to spend quality time with each other and build the kind of friendships everyone needs-- laughing and adventuring together, supporting each other through the tough times, and doing college and life together in a way that extends beyond just our time at UW.

To achieve this, we have certain traditions and activities that give us the opportunity to foster stronger bonds and provide a much-needed break from academics and other obligations.

Big/Little

It can be intimidating to join a big group of people -- we understand that, and we have smaller families within Phi Rho to help everyone find their place. Each member receives a 'big' to serve as her mentor and close friend within the sorority. The big/little relationship is a special one and often endures far beyond your time in undergrad.

Retreat

We have a weekend retreat each spring that's always one of the highlights of the quarter. In the past we've gone to locations like Cle Elum and Leavenworth, where we stay in a big house together and explore, relax, and cook with each other. The best part is that all costs for retreat are covered by quarterly dues!

Intramurals

For members who like to get active and exercise their teamwork skills, we form intramural teams each quarter for various sports-- we've played volleyball, ultimate frisbee, inner tube basketball, and more. All skill levels are welcome, and we also tend to team up with UW's chapter of Triangle for co-ed divisions.

Socials

We have at least one official social event each quarter -- it's a time that's set aside to relax and do everything from crafts to donut-eating competitions. Our social committee chair also works to plan multiple social activities each quarter that members can choose to go to in order to destress and make memories with their peers.

Formal

We also host an annual Orchid Ball in the spring. It's our chance to dress up, eat good food, and dance the night away in a gorgeous venue. Whether members choose to bring a friend or go with each other, everyone always has a great time getting dressed up, taking photos, and spending an amazing evening together.

Informal

Our members have a variety of interests and hobbies, so no matter what your passion is, you're bound to find a Phi Rho who shares it. Members regularly reach out to the chapter as a whole to organize informal hikes, workouts, shopping trips, and more.
